ASHEVILLE, NC- Barbara Stratton Gore, 65, formerly of Paducah, died on October 20 at Mission Hospital in Asheville.
Mrs. Gore was a 1973 salutatorian and graduate of Paducah Tilghman High School. She was also a graduate of Vanderbilt University, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. She had lived in New York, Chicago, and Dallas as she worked for such firms as Honeywell, General Electric and Texas Instruments. She later moved to Washington, DC, where she worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture; a position she held until her retirement when she moved to Asheville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar (Deacon) Stratton and Rev. Sarah Stratton; a sister, Nazareth Long and three nephews. Mrs. Gore is survived by her husband, Carl; three sisters, Katherine Donaldon, of Gary, IN, Carolyn Stratton, of Paducah; and Nwayni Stratton, of Glenarden, MD; three nephews, five nieces and many cousins.
Arrangements were handled by A Simple Cremation of WNC. Mrs. Gore was cremated and there were no services because of her spouse’s health problems. A public memorial will be scheduled next year, he said.
