Caroline Grant Schmidt

Asheville – Caroline Grant Schmidt died peacefully in hospice care the morning of January 27, 2023. She is survived by; two children, Steven and Janet; their spouses, Veronica and Robert; daughter-in-law, Tracy; four grandchildren, Max, Grace, Calista, and Silvana. She is predeceased by her husband Frederick and son David.

Carol was born to Cliff and Alice in 1940 in Westchester, NY. She attended High School in Westfield, NJ where she met and fell in love with Frederick. After graduating from college, they married in 1962. They were long-time residents of West Chester, PA and moved to Asheville, NC in 2005 to be near family. They lived happily together until Frederick died in 2012.

Carol had a very wide range of interests and knowledge. She was active in the Crowfields HOA, believed in lifelong learning, and was a person of exceptional moral caliber and wit. She made every life she touched better. She loved her family, friends, and all things in nature, except groundhogs. She will be greatly missed. Memorial contributions may be made to the Nature Conservancy and Planned Parenthood.
