Charles Arthur Gates

Charles Arthur Gates, born on January 16, 1961, in Long Beach, California, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2025, at Elizabeth House in Flat Rock, North Carolina. He lived a life marked by service, laughter, and unwavering love for his family.

Charles served in the United States Marine Corps from 1979 to 1981. His bravery and commitment during this time earned him the fond nickname "Crazy," a reflection of his spirited nature and zest for life. Following his military service, Charles dedicated over 20 years as a foreman for OK Construction, where he was respected for his work ethic and leadership.

Charles was known for his kindness and his willingness to help anyone in need. Family and friends often reminisce about his witty humor and how he brought joy and laughter into their lives, being the biggest jokester in the family. He had a deep love for Country and Bluegrass music, which provided the soundtrack to many cherished moments. He also enjoyed the thrill of riding his beloved Harley Davidson motorcycle, embracing a sense of freedom and adventure.

His legacy continues through his loving family. Charles is survived by his daughter, Brandy Gates (Adam Praytor), his step-son, Christopher Brown (Cayla Christine). He took great pride in being a grandfather to Bentley, Riley, Brayden, Tucker, and Charlee. Charles is also remembered by his brothers, David Gates (Carol), and Tony Gates (Devada Galloway), as well as his sisters, Wendy Warren (Davey), Kim Ornelas, and Mary Gates.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald Gates and Deloris Richardson Gates, who will always hold a special place in the hearts of those who knew him.
