Deborah Kay Payne Mathis

Deborah Kay Payne Mathis 62 of Sylva passed away Thursday June 13, 2024 at Mission hospital. A native of Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late William Roy and Mary Sue Payne.

She was preceded in death by her husband Stevie Lee Mathis in 2014, two brothers Roger Dale Payne, Terry "Shorty" Payne and one sister Elizabeth "Lib" Sutton.

Deborah is survived by her two daughters, Carla Nicole Messer of Sylva and Beth Ann Mathis (Kristen McCarter Mathis) of Clinton Tenn., three grandchildren Brooke and Ryan Huskey, Amelia Driver and step-grandson Branden McCarter-Wolfe. One brother David Payne (Lori) of Whittier, two sisters Wanda Messer (Ray) of Whittier, Kelly Bearden (Chris) of Almond and her sister in-law Lauren Payne of Whittier.

Deborah's family was very important to her and nothing made her happier than spending time with her children and her grandchildren.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

The care of Mrs. Mathis has been entrusted to A Simple Cremation.
