Asheville

Eula May Deitz, a lifelong resident of Buncombe County, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2019 at the age of 79 at the Brian Center Health and Rehab of Hendersonville, NC.  She was born at 190 Michigan Ave, Asheville, on July 17, 1939 the daughter of the late James Francis Tweed and Lilly Miranda Pursley Tweed.

She is preceded in death by her great-granddaughter Lilie Ann O’Donnell (4/28/17-5/1/17), her husband of over 31 years Clarence Manley Deitz, and her siblings, Thomas, Clyde, Margaret, Mary, Betty and Bobby.

Left to cherish her wonderful memory are her son, Clarence Eugene Deitz (Shell) of Crestview, FL, Deborah Ann O’Donnell (Paul) of Lewisville, NC, and Karen Michele Shelton (Ken) of Saluda, NC.  Along with her children, Eula is survived by her grandchildren:  Sean O’Donnell, Elizabeth O’Donnell Higgins, Brandon Shelton, Bradley Shelton, Brittni Shelton Brown, Meghan Deitz and Paige Deitz, her beautiful great-grandchildren Nathanael and Makenzie Brown, Declan and Eli Higgins, Finn O’Donnell, and Emma Shelton; her sisters, Sarah Honeycutt and Helen Chandler; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Eula May loved her children. She loved going fishing, singing, dancing and parties that included her favorite food:  lemon pound cake, chocolate pie and old fashioned fudge.   She loved going to see her grandparents, Squire Edward and Mattie Jane Pursley.  Although Eula will be greatly missed, her life will continue in each of us as we remember her laughter, her big smile, her young spirit and her generous heart.  She would give her last penny to anyone who needed it. She was beautifully unique.

A memorial will be held at Corinth Missionary Baptist Church, 195 Dix Creek Road #2, Leicester, NC on Thursday, March 28, 2019 at 11am with Pastor Rodney Franklin officiating.

Her immediate family requests privacy at the interment with her nephew, Pastor Mike Anderson, officiating at the burial service at Green Hills Cemetery, Asheville, NC.
