Eva Marie Urso, beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, creativity, kindness, and cherished memories.

Eva was a longtime member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Norfolk, Virginia, where she found a treasured sense of community and belonging. Her faith and her church family were an important part of her life, and she remained devoted to them throughout the years.

Eva had a lifelong love of words and poetry. A gifted writer, she was honored to be elected to the International Poetry Hall of Fame, an accomplishment that reflected both her talent and her deep appreciation for the written word. She enjoyed writing poetry and was an avid reader. She also loved playing Scrabble, Upwords, and Sudoku, always enjoying the challenge of words, puzzles, and a good game.

Eva is lovingly remembered by her children, Thomas Guy Urso and his wife Vickey, and Susan Urso Schley and her husband Jim.

She is also survived by her siblings and their families, including June Rado, David Jurmu and his wife Rae Marie, along with her sister-in-laws Joanne Jurmu (wife of the late Bernie) and Lorrianne Jurmu (wife of the late Ralph) and her grandson Jimmy Schley and his wife Lorna.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oskari John and Evi Armeda Jurmu , her husband, Gaetano “Tom” Urso, her infant sister Joyce Jurmu, and her other siblings Bernard “Bernie” Jurmu, Ralph Jurmu, Russell Jurmu and his wife Audrey, brother-in-law Leonard Rado, the husband of Eva’s sister June, as well as her best friend Alberta McIntyre and her husband Mac.

Eva will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She leaves behind not only the memories of a life well lived, but also the words she wrote, the people she encouraged, and the countless lives touched by her warmth and generous spirit. She treasured time with people she loved and had a special gift for making others feel welcome. Eva held a special place in her heart for her nieces and nephews, Alberta’s family, her church family and all her friends. To her even a stranger was simply someone she had not yet had the opportunity to know.

Eva especially loved country music, the color pink, and flowers – particularly carnations and roses.

A service celebrating Eva’s life will be held on September 12th, at 12:00 noon at St. Timothy Lutheran Church, 1015 Kempsville Road, Norfolk, Virginia 23502.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the food pantry at St. Timothy Lutheran Church.
