Eva Marie Urso, beloved mother, sister, grandmother, poet, and friend, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, creativity, kindness, and cherished memories.

Eva was a longtime member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Norfolk, Virginia, where she found a treasured sense of community and belonging. Her faith and her church family were an important part of her life, and she remained devoted to them throughout the years.

Eva had a lifelong love of words and poetry. A gifted writer, she was honored to be elected to the International Poetry Hall of Fame, an accomplishment that reflected both her talent and her deep appreciation for the written word. She enjoyed writing poetry and was an avid reader. She also loved playing Scrabble, Upwords, and Sudoku, always enjoying the challenge of words, puzzles, and a good game.

Eva especially loved country music, the color pink, and flowers—particularly carnations and roses. She treasured time with the people she loved and had a special gift for making others feel welcome. She held a special place in her heart for her nieces and nephews, her church family, and all the friends she met throughout her life. To her, even a stranger was simply someone she had not yet had the opportunity to know.

Eva is lovingly remembered by her children, Timothy Guy Urso and Susan Urso, as well as her grandchildren and extended family. She is also survived by her siblings and their families, including June Rade, David Jurmu and his wife Rae Marie, her beloved nieces and nephews, along with her sisters-in-law Joanne Turner and Lorna Turner, and her grandson Jimmy Shelley.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Eva Jurmu, her husband, Gaetano “Tom” Urso, her infant son Jeffrey Jamie, and siblings Bernard Turner, Ralph Turner, Russell Turner, and Audrey Leonard Rade.

Eva will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She leaves behind not only the memories of a life well lived, but also the words she wrote, the people she encouraged, and the countless lives touched by her warmth and generous spirit. Eva held a special place in her heart for her nieces and nephews, her church family, and all her friends. She never met a stranger.

A service celebrating Eva’s life will be held at 12:00 noon at St. Timothy Lutheran Church, 1015 Kempsville Road, Norfolk, Virginia 23502.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the food pantry at St. Timothy Lutheran Church.
