Guy Robert
Gettinger III
Dec 17, 1963 — Aug 31, 2026
Canton, NC
Guy Robert Gettinger III, 62, of Canton, North Carolina, passed away in Asheville, North Carolina, on August 31, 2026.
Guy was born on December 17, 1963, in Broward County, Florida, to Robert Gettinger and Chearie Dukes.
Guy was a warm and upbeat person who never knew a stranger. He had a natural way of making people feel welcome and was known for his friendly spirit and love of life. Guy worked as an automobile salesman and enjoyed spending his free time doing the things he loved most, including fishing, golfing, following NASCAR, and cheering for the Florida Gators and Miami Dolphins.
Sports were a big part of Guy's life. He followed NASCAR closely and especially enjoyed watching Kyle Busch and Earnhardt. He was a devoted Florida Gators and Miami Dolphins fan and also loved Pisgah football. Guy enjoyed classic rock music and was especially fond of Neil Young. His favorite colors were blue and orange.
Guy had a special love for animals. He had a beloved dog, Sky and his cats Thomas, and Grey, affectionately known as “Killer.” They all held a special place in his heart. Although he often joked that he was “not a cat person,” he loved his own dearly.
Guy met the love of his life, Dianne Gettinger, on May 5, 2016—Cinco de Mayo—at Wild Wing Cafe. Their meeting marked the beginning of a relationship that became an important part of his life. He spent the last of his days planning adventures and making memories that will last forever.
Guy is survived by his loving wife, Dianne Gettinger; his children, Brooke and Taylor Gettinger; his mother, Chearie Dukes; and his brother, Wray Gettinger and his sister-in-law Lori Gettinger.
Guy was preceded in death by his beloved father Guy R. Gettinger Jr. in 2015.
Guy will be remembered for his upbeat personality, his love of family and animals, his passion for sports and NASCAR, and, most of all, for the way he made everyone feel welcome. He truly never knew a stranger.
A life well lived, a personality never forgotten, and a friend to many.
Guy's Celebration of Life will be held at 7:00 p.m. on September 12, 2026, at Wild Wing Cafe, 65 Long Shoals Road, Arden, North Carolina. Another service will be held in Ocala, Florida, in October, with details to be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Pisgah High School Football Program, 1 Black Bear Drive, Canton, NC 28716.
