It is with heavy hearts we announce that Jimmie Monroe Blythe passed away quietly at his home on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at the age of 83.
Born in Orange County, NC on August 28, 1942, to Ruby Jordan and Morris Blythe, Jim resided in the small community of Bat Cave, NC for the past 48 years.
A lifelong musician, Jim played with a variety of bands from the time he was 17 until he turned 80. He loved jazz, blues and classic rock and his beloved Rickenbacker bass guitar was never far from his side.
When Jim wasn't playing music he could be found working in his woodshop, hiking the mountains surrounding his home or gardening.
Jim is survived by his wife of 49 years, Maggie, their son Jason and daughter Jessica. Additional survivors include his daughter from a prior marriage, Wendy Danner, his 2 brothers, Mickey and Jerry Clayton, his sister in law Mary Reynolds and husband Robert, sister in law Barbara MacKesson and husband Steve Williams, as well as nieces, nephews, their spouses and children.
As Jim requested there will be no formal traditional service. Cremation will be provided by A Simple Cremation and his ashes scattered by family in places he designated.
At a later date and place to be announced, we will gather to share memories and music while remembering the love Jim shared with those he called family or friends.
Jim may no longer be with us physically but his spirit surrounds us. Until we meet him again, we take comfort in knowing Jim is once again making music with many of his prior band members who have been waiting for their bassist to arrive.
