Martha McElrath Pitts

Martha June Pitts, age 81, of Candler, NC passed away Monday, September 15, 2025, at her home surrounded by family. A native of Haywood County but lived most of her life in Candler.

She is preceded in death by her husband Homer Pitts; sons Jerry Anderson and Randy Anderson; brother Bobby McElrath and sister Phyllis McElrath; parents Lucille Cope and Moody McElrath.

She is survived by daughters Sandy Trull (Tony) and Angie Gibson (David) both of Candler; sisters Mary Reece (Max) of Warne, Barbara Miller (Terry) of Candler, Audrey Worley (the late Doug) of Acworth, GA, Vicky Donaldson (Roger) of Hayesville; brothers Max McElrath of Canton and Richard Cope of Morganton; five grandchildren Brook James (Jake), Corey Swafford, Michelle Swafford, Aaron Trull (Tara) all of Candler and Cleda Anderson Green (Dustin) of Murphy; nine great-grandchildren.

Martha loved being outside in the sunshine working in her flower beds or garden. She enjoyed working on puzzles, sewing, watching the Braves play, playing a round of golf or staying up watching wrestling. Most of all she loved her house full of grandkids or great-grandkids playing and her smile would say it all. She will be deeply missed.

A drop-in memorial service will be held at her home on October 25th from 11am to 5pm.
