Mary Kathryn “Katie” Roland Brookshire 38 passed Tuesday January 17, 2023 from complications due to Covid 19 and pneumonia at Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC.
Katie was born at Harris Regional Hospital in Sylva, NC.
Katie was her dad’s pal and spent many Saturday mornings at the Dreamland Drive In Flea Market, The Hot Shot Cafe and Sundays at All Souls Episcopal Church in Biltmore Village. She loved going to Road Atlanta and helping her dad race.
Katie was an athlete growing up and loved and excelled in softball and cheerleading. Especially cheerleading. She started on youth squads and and cheered In Middle School and JV and Varsity at T. C. Roberson High School.
She was a member of the first All Star cheerleading team in Western NC.
The Asheville All Stars Cats. They were the first team from WNC to win 2 1st place championships at Cheersport Nationals in Atlanta.
When she aged out of cheerleading her coaches hired her to coach. Her Premier Asheville Cats Pee Wees
won a 1st place Championship at Cheersport Nationals in Atlanta. She was gifted at and loved putting dance moves to music which showed in her Premier Cats Pee Wees and she did this with her beloved nephew Kasey, too.
She grew up camping with her family at Fontana Lake, NC. Boating, hiking and enjoying their family house boat.
Katie graduated from T. C. Roberson High School in Asheville in 2002.
She attended AB Tech in Asheville and eventually decided on Cosmetology at Blue Ridge Community College in Hendersonville, NC.
She enjoyed many years as a stylist with Natural Impressions in Asheville, Visage Salon in Sylva, Ladies and Gents (her own salon) in Robbinsville and Textures Salon in Bryson City, NC.
She moved back home in 2018 and became a Wellness Director at The Joint in Asheville.
Katie loved all animals and rescued many who were let out on the rural roads of Graham County, NC. She was a member of Graham County Animal Rescue when she lived there. She has rescued many birds and squirrels on our property where she grew up. She loved them all so much and she’s been the best Aunt Katie to our sweet Kasey.
Katie is survived by the love of her life, her husband Patrick Brookshire, her parents Pam and Bill Roland, her brother William Russell “Rusty” Roland (Ali), her beloved nephew Kasey, numerous nieces and nephews and cousins from North Carolina and Texas.
Katie’s Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be February 4, 2023 at 2 pm at Skyland UMC church
