Mary Roberta Murphy, 82, of Burnsville passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at her residence. A native of Yancey County, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Violet Redmond Reeves. 

Mary was known for her delicious meals that brought family and friends together. Cooking was not just a hobby for her, it was a way to express her love and care for those around her. For most of her life, she joyfully played the piano at her church, combining her musical talents with her devotion to her faith. Her heartfelt singing reverberated through the halls of the church, uplifting the spirits of all who gathered to worship. She also enjoyed spending time working in her flower garden, her garden was a labor of love, a testament to her dedication and care. Mary leaves behind a legacy of kindness, warmth, and creativity. Her contributions to her family, her church, and her community will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing her. As we celebrate her life, we honor her memory and the indelible mark she has left on our hearts.

She is survived by her husband Patrick Murphy, sons; Joseph Crane and Tony Crane; stepsons, Steven Murphy and Paul Murphy; five grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at Bolen’s Creek Baptist Church, 19 Heavenly Lane, Burnsville, NC 28714 with Reverend Mark Tice officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning 12:00 p.m. 

The care of Mrs. Murphy has been entrusted to A Simple Cremation.
