Richard Steven Queen, 73, of Waynesville passed away on Friday, August 14, 2026, at Mission Hospital.

Known as “Rick” to his family and friends, he was born on February 18, 1953, in Grand Rapids, Michigan to the late D.B. Queen and Maxine Mease Queen. When he was two years old his family moved to Waynesville, NC where he lived and called home for the remainder of his life.

Rick was a graduate of Tuscola High School and Wingate Junior College. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. Rick was a dedicated beekeeper and a member of the Haywood County Beekeepers Association where he had previously served as President. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge with beginner beekeepers serving as a mentor and educating the public about the importance of honeybees.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his significant other, Beth Sain.

Rick is survived by two sons Drew Queen (Jessica) and Brody Queen (Lyndsay). Sister, Sharon Loftis. Nephew, Scott Loftis (Laura) and Niece, Sherry Loftis-Hall (Mike). Grandchildren, Izzy Queen, Marley Queen, Ziek Queen. Great nephews, Evan Loftis, Eric Loftis, Carter Hall.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026 at 2:00pm at Meadow Grove Baptist Church.
