Robert A. McCarty, a beloved husband, brother, and son, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2025, at CarePartners Solace Center in Asheville, North Carolina, with his devoted husband, Barry McDade, and his dog, Charlie, by his side. Born in September, 1958, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, Rob lived a life filled with love, creativity, and a passion for technology and the arts.
A dedicated professional, Rob spent over three decades working with prestigious companies such as AT&T, IBM, and Ameritech, where he excelled in various roles in systems administration, team leadership, and management. Colleagues admired not only his technical skills but also his remarkable ability to train and inspire many employees throughout his career.
Rob pursued education, attending Alma College before earning his Associate Degree from Delta College. His academic journey was a foundation of knowledge that complemented his practical experience in the technology sector.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Rob enjoyed his leisure time. He cherished his days spent at the cottage in Lake George, Michigan, creating memories that would last a lifetime during those warm summer days. He also found joy exploring the scenic wine tours of the Traverse City region, accompanied by family and friends who adored his loving spirit.
An animal lover, Rob shared his life with several four-legged companions. His pets—cats Muffy and Max, and dogs Britney, Chompers, Eddie, and Penny—brought him immense joy and companionship. He had a creative side as well, engaging in artistic pursuits that included watercolor and acrylic painting, along with pottery, allowing his imagination to flourish.
Rob is survived by his loving husband with whom he shared 30 years of companionship, Barry McDade; and his sister, Susan Walters, and her husband, John, of Allegan, Michigan. Although he is preceded in death by his parents, Franklin and Shirley McCarty, Rob's vibrant legacy will continue through those who loved him deeply.
As we remember Rob, let us carry forward the love he shared, the laughter he inspired, and the kindness he embodied. His presence will be dearly missed but forever cherished in the hearts of his family and friends.
