Sue Woodrup

May 25, 1944 — October 27, 2023

Weaverville

Sue Woodrup, adored by so many who knew her, died aged 79 in her home in Weaverville, NC of respiratory failure. She passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones.

Sue was born in Wallasey, England to Joan and Gordon Lindley in 1944 during the Second World War. She went to secretarial school and ferried across the Mersey to work in Liverpool where she met her husband, John Woodrup and they married in 1969.  After the birth of their son, Simon, they subsequently lived in Cheshire, England until John’s retirement when they moved to Marco Island, Florida.

During her time in Florida, she worked as a real estate agent, enjoyed playing golf, boating and spending time with their beloved pug, Blossom.

They later spent some happy years in Tennessee and after John’s passing in 2010 she moved to Weaverville, NC to be closer to her son, Simon. Sue’s passion later in life was working with animals in shelters. Her favourite days in recent years were those spent volunteering at Asheville Humane Society which she did so right up until a month before her death.

Sue was known for her caring character, her very British sense of humour and her outgoing friendliness to all, whether friend or stranger.

Sue is survived by her son, Simon and her daughter in-law Laura, as well as her brother John Lindley, her step-daughter Joan McAllister, Joan’s daughters Laura Hudson and Katy McAllister and their children Finlay, Layla, Ella and Iris.

Sue will be remembered in a private memorial at a later date but can be honoured by a legacy gift to the Asheville Humane Society.

Her vibrant, loving spirit and her love of laughter will not be forgotten.
