Suzanne (Suzie) Merickle was born in Louisana in the closing year of WW2. She was raised in Louisana with her sister Millie and by her parents Carl and Nell. 

As a young adult she led a most exciting life travelling the country and the world as a flight attendant for Eastern Airlines. During this time she met the most interesting people that provided incredible stories that she would share for the rest of her life. 

She moved to Asheville, NC in 1997 to be closer to her daughter. Since moving to Asheville she worked a variety of positions in early childhood education. She loved children, being a teacher, and had a special place in her heart for the children that some deemed "a little harder to love". Suzanne, or Ms. Merickle as most affectionaly called her, attended several churches while living in Asheville. Rather than be known for her church affiliation she was known for her relationship with her Savior, Jesus Christ. She spent a considerable amount of time getting to know Him through the reading of the Bible, listening to hymns and worship songs, and reading and listening to sermons. 

She was also known as a woman that loved others fiercely. She kept a long prayer list of "her people" and prayed for them regularly, these prayers were sometimes followed by a text message checking in on the person. She attended Bible study groups regularly and the people she met at church and Bible Study were an important and vibrant part of her life. She also had a passion for thrift stores and used furniture. She could find or make a deal like nobody else. And she always kept a few strong men on standby to help her transport her finds. 

She leaves behind a daughter, Suzanna, that she loved dearly. 

A celebration of life will be held at Fellowship Asheville, 756 Fairview Rd, Asheville, NC 28805 on June 27, 2026.
