Haydee Gonzalez

October 5, 1932 — May 29, 2021

Asheville

Haydee Pita-Gonzalez, affectionately known as “Mama” by those that loved her, passed away on Saturday, 05/29/2021.

Haydee was born on 10/05/1932 to Epifanio and Flora Pita and eventually had seven siblings: Rigoberto Pita, Eluterio Pita (deceased), Berta Roig (deceased), Emelina Betancourt, Felix Pita, Dora Pita (deceased), and Marta Cuadras.

Haydee had four children of her own: Daysi Martinez, Ada Loida Blanco, Pablo Martinez, and Daniel Martinez – who tragically died unexpectedly at the age of 34.

She had 13 grandchildren: David Blanco, David Elliott Rhoades, Noah Blanco, Gabriel Blanco, Paul Andrew Martinez, Christopher Martinez, Gabriel Leon, Alexander Blanco, Danny Martinez, Lizette Martinez, Andy Martinez, Michael Martinez, and Kimberly Martinez.

She also had 17 great-grandchildren and 24 nieces & nephews.

Any attempt to list all of the individuals whom she loved – and who loved her – would be futile. Haydee had a gift – she was able to treat each person that she loved in a special way. So much so, that each person felt they had a special relationship with her that no one else shared. Each grandchild was convinced that they were her “favorite” – that was Mama’s way.

Haydee was kind, loving, considerate, generous, loyal, and self-sacrificing – among other wonderful qualities. Although she comes from a loving family who share many of those same qualities, Mama would be the first to acknowledge that any good qualities she may have had were enhanced, enriched, and cultivated to a greater degree because of her deep and personal relationship with her Heavenly Father, Jehovah.

She dedicated her life to Jehovah at the age of 23 and was baptized on Saturday, October 22, 1955. That decision would prove to be the most important one she would ever make, and it influenced how she lived her life and how she raised her family.

Even the advances of Alzheimer’s disease in recent years could not dampen her zeal or love for her God. She still enjoyed watching JW Broadcasting, listening to music that strengthened her faith, attending meetings, Assemblies, and Conventions (when physically possible), and reading the Bible and other Bible-based publications. She also loved her spiritual brothers and sisters so much!

Now, we are left without her smile, her laugh, her food (oh…the food!), her affectionate hugs and kisses, and her sweet words. Mama was not perfect – but she was perfect for us. We all miss her so much – and we will, every day, until the day when she hears Jesus’ voice call to her, and she is resurrected to perfect life on earth. (John 5:28, 29) This hope of the resurrection was so very close to Mama’s heart as she longed to see her mother, her son, and her siblings again. That hope anchored her during very difficult times in her life, and it will do the same for us now.

A private memorial service will be held for Haydee in both Spanish and English. If you would like to attend, please contact the family.

Haydee también tenia 13 nietos: David Blanco, David Elliott Rhoades, Noah Blanco, Gabriel Blanco, Paul Andrew Martinez, Christopher Martinez, Gabriel Leon, Alexander Blanco, Danny Martinez, Lizette Martinez, Andy Martinez, Michael Martinez, and Kimberly Martinez.
